Niko Pirosmani (ნიკო ფიროსმანი) was a legendary self-taught painter.
According to documents Nikoloz Pirosmanishvili was born in Kizikhi, the village of Mirzaani in 1862 and passed away in Tbilisi in the spring of 1918, but exact dates remain uncertain.
Pirosmani and his work became known to a broader Georgian public in the early 1910s. To this day, his art is celebrated around the world and showcased in renowned museums.
The Pirosmani exhibition held at the Albertina Museum (Vienna, Austria) from 2018 to 2019 was included in the top ten modernist exhibitions of 2019. In 2023, two major exhibitions of the artist’s work took place, at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Humlebeak, Denmark) and Fondation Beyeler (Riehen, Switzerland).
