Artist in Focus • Eteri Chkadua / ეთერი ჭკადუა (b.1965) is a Georgian artist currently living and working in New York City. She studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and moved to Chicago in 1988. Her work reflects her cultural background, its traditions, contradictions, and the geopolitical tensions surrounding Georgia, while her artistic practice has evolved in many different directions over the past 30 years. Throughout her career, she has explored a wide range of subjects, including race, gender, feminism, ecology, taboo traditions, and religion.
