#TheStoryofOnePaintingFromATINATICollection Iranian easel paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries occupy an important place in both Iranian and global art history. Commonly referred to as Qajar, or Iranian Royal Painting, this genre emerged and flourished during the reign of the Qajar dynasty. This outstanding Persian painting depicting the ceremonial reception of Fath-Ali Shah (1797–1834), the second ruler of the Qajar dynasty is part of the ATINATI Collection Although ATINATI’s collection is dedicated to the development of Georgian art, this acquisition reflects the Foundation’s commitment to researching and presenting the artistic context in which Georgian easel painting emerged and developed. Qajar painting had a profound influence on the formation of Georgian easel painting in the 19th century, particularly through its visual language, portrait traditions, and courtly aesthetics. As the only foundation in Georgia whose collection spans the history of Georgian easel painting from its origins to contemporary art, ATINATI continues to build a collection that not only preserves masterpieces of Georgian art, but also helps illuminate the artistic influences that shaped its development.
