Zurab Gikashvili was born in Kvareli in 1961. He studied at Telavi Art School, then at the Iakob Nikoladze Art School in Tbilisi, and finally he entered the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, from which he graduated in 1992. Beginning from his student years, Zurab Gikashvili has participated in various international projects. One of the first group exhibitions where he was selected by Markus Lüpertz was held in 1992, at the Gibellina Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy. He is one of the renowned representatives of those Georgian artists of the 1990s, whose paintings are distinguished by existential topics, exquisite painting technique, emotionality and high sensitivity. His works are included in many collections – among them the Huma Kabakci collection, which is known for its large scale and diversity.
