FREEDOM INSPIRED ART

05 NOV / 00:00 Sighnaghi Museum

Exhibition of 6 nonconformist artists (Avto Varazi, Otar Chkhartishvili, Vatia Davitashvili, Temo Japaridze, Amir Kakabadze, Avto Meskhi) was opened on November 5, 2021 at Sighnaghi Museum.

From December 25, 2021, the artworks of non-conformist artists Karlo Grigolia and Zura Sekhniashvili will be presented at Sighnaghi Museum at the exhibition "Freedom Inspired Art".

Sculptor Karlo Grigolia (1927-2014) is one of the most important representatives of non-conformist art and the founder of Georgian abstract sculpture. After graduating from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1956, he continued working as lecturer at the academy. Karlo Grigolia's works are based on Greek classical principles, his works clearly show his characteristic individualism and aspiration to generalize the plastic form.

Zura Sekhniashvili (1945-2021) was an architect-conservator. He has restored more than 60 historical monuments, including Svetitskhoveli and Davit-Gareja. Avto Varazi had a great influence on his formation as an artist. He started working with abstraction, which was a form of his protest. Nevertheless, Zura Sekhniashvili's art is considered more aesthetically than reformist-rebellious. Despite his active personal position, he sought most tranquility in art. He said, "Perhaps time must pass… I do not think we can avoid anything, perhaps a more protective mechanism works, it is difficult to talk about open wounds ..."
