THE COLLECTION OF THE NIKO PIROSMANISHVILI

The collection of the Niko Pirosmanashvili State Museum of Mirzaani will be on display for six months at the Sighnaghi Museum beginning 2022, April 14. The exhibition includes 14 paintings by Niko Pirosmanashvili that have been preserved in the collection, as well as a famous etching by Pablo Picasso depicting a graphic portrait of Niko Pirosmanashvli.

The collection of Niko Pirosmanashvili's works preserved in the Mirzaani House-Museum holds an important part in his artistic heritage.

Early orphaned Niko, at the age of 8-10 years, left his native Mirzaani and moved to Tbilisi, where he lived in till the end of his life. Artist’s sister and her family settled in Mirzaani. In 1898 Niko Pirosmanashvili built a new house for his sister at the place of an old one. This is the very building where Niko Pirosmanashvili House-Museum was opened in 1960. The first exhibits were presented by Association of Writers of Georgia and Signagi Museum, which laid the foundation of the famous collection of Mirzaani House-Museum. Nowadays 14 works by Niko Pirosmanashvili are preserved in its collection. Specially to be mentioned Niko Pirosmanashvili’s graphic portrait (etching), drawn by P.Picasso for the Ilia Zdanevich’s book “Niko Pirosmanashvili, 1914” in 1972. The original of the etching was granted to the Museum by wife of Ilia Zdanevich, Helen Duar in 1985.
