“A WOMAN ARTIST: THE FACE OF THE ERA” This is the name of the exhibition held in Budapest. The works of Georgian women artists from the past century to the present day were exhibited at Pesti Vigadó halls. This is the first-ever event in Hungary to introduce the art of Georgian women. The exhibition featured works by Elene Akhvlediani, Ketevan Maghalashvili, Tamara Abakelia, Esma Oniani, Lia Shvelidze, and Sopho Cherkezishvili, representing four generations of Georgian women artists. The show, spanning 100 years (1924–2024), unites pieces of Modernist and Socialist Realism art, as well as non-ideological art of the Thaw period, and Postmodern art. All artistic trends and movements that emerged in Georgia despite the isolation of the Soviet era and the challenges of the young nation’s self-identity demonstrate a strong alignment between Georgian and European cultures. The exhibition of Georgian painters is being hosted by Pesti Vigadó for the first time. The majority of the exhibits come from the Georgian National Museum of Art and the Georgian National Gallery’s collections, as well as the artists’ collections. The Georgian National Gallery is the curator of the exhibition
